Shisandrae Chinensis

Schisandra, the fruit of the Chinese Magnolia Vine is a very interesting Herb. Wu Wei Zi translates as "Five-Flavor Seed" which explains its unusual property of flavors. The bark and flesh are sweet, sour, and salty while the kernel is pungent, bitter, and salty. This complex weave of flavors gives this warming herb a pleasant aroma.
