Rou cong rong, or the stem of the Broomrape plant, is a heavy, sweet material. Our Cistanche is a very nice gooey, flexible, sweet smelling specimen, somewhat remniscent to Sheng Di Huang. Where Sheng Di Huang is a Blood tonic, Rou Cong Rong is a mild yang tonic, warming in nature and sweet on the palette. Being salty, this herb enters the Kidney meridian to nourish the Kidney yang and jing.
