Ju Hua is principally a Wind-Heat releasing herb; it is often used for headaches and externally to clear heat and inflammation. Ju Hua comes in 3 varieties. We use the wild variety (Ye Ju Hua), which is strongest to dispel heat; other varieties have stronger functions in other areas.

Ju Hua is acrid, sweet, and bitter. It is cooling energetically, and enters the Lung and Liver meridians.
