Iron Palm at PlumDragon Herbs

PlumDragon Herbs is pleased to offer comprehensive iron palm training (See Prices) to those who have an interest in this serious form of conditioning. We have designed a comprehensive training course which caters to those who have an interest in travelling to us in an effort to learn the system in an immersion setting (approximately 4-6 hours of solid training).

Traditional Iron Palm or Iron Hand training is a form of esoteric hand conditioning that is meant to strengthen and condition the bones and tissues of the hand to withstand the stress from increased striking power.  While Iron palm also incorporates routines which are meant to open the circulating pathways of the body, the primary focus should be on conditioning the hand and increasing striking power.

We are pleased to offer a full Iron Palm training method that is built around the traditional teachings but has evolved to produce the most optimal results.  No secrets and no ridiculous claims of mysticism; just sound, safe training methods.  The system is broken down into the following distinct categories:
  • Warm-up and cool-down exercises
  • Conditioning of the hand
  • Exercises for power development
  • Herbal Education

Warm Up and Cool Down

Prior to, and following the actual iron palm regimen, there are a variety of warm-ups and cool-downs that can be performed.  This inclues massage and the use of the iron palm dit da jow, and many are also qigong types of routines important both for loosening up the body and aiding in minor injury by teaching your body to physiologically increase local circulation.  While many iron palmists believe and claim that these routines are very important, our understanding of qigong as it relates to iron palm and combat tells us that they can be helpful for healing and mental awareness but have little to do with the iron palm process itself, and literally nothing to do with combat.

Conditioning of The Hand/Power Development

Many schools of iron palm treat the physical conditioning process and the power development process as a single routine.  Simply slapping a canvas bag in a relaxed manner is not optimal training for power production.  In the system taught at PlumDragon, we implement 2 separate routines:  One which has the primary focus of physically toughening the hands and one which has the primary focus of developing your abiility to produce power in your strikes.

Herbal Education

Fully immersing yourself in the training means becoming familiar with the herbal compounds used for iron palm, both externally and internally.  While many schools make an attempt to treat herbal information as "secret", we arm our students with the tools to understand what makes up a good iron palm jow and why it is important.  Students dont simply learn what types of herbs are in iron palm jow, they learn the specific herbs and how to prepare them.
